Ponderosa
An architectural retreat shaped by landscape, light, and the rhythms of everyday living. Perched quietly above the Okanagan valley, Ponderosa was designed as more than a modern home — it was envisioned as a retreat deeply connected to landscape, light, and the rhythms of everyday living.

A Home Rooted in Landscape, Light, and Intentional Living
Perched quietly within the pines overlooking the Okanagan valley, Ponderosa was envisioned as more than a custom home — it was designed as a retreat deeply connected to its surroundings and the rhythms of everyday life.
From the beginning, the vision for the project was clear: create a modern home that felt refined and architectural, while still remaining grounded, warm, and deeply livable. The design draws heavily from the surrounding landscape, using restrained forms, natural materials, and intentional framing to allow the environment to become part of the experience of the home itself.
Rather than competing with the site, the architecture was designed to settle into it.
Low horizontal rooflines mirror the horizon of the valley beyond, while expansive overhangs and carefully positioned glazing create a constant dialogue between interior and exterior space. Throughout the home, moments of compression and openness were used intentionally — balancing intimacy with scale, and creating spaces that feel calm, quiet, and restorative.
The exterior palette was selected to feel timeless and understated. Dark vertical cladding allows the structure to recede into the forested backdrop, while warm wood soffits and textured stone elements introduce softness and warmth. The result is a home that feels simultaneously modern and deeply connected to place.
Inside, the design continues with a restrained material palette focused on texture, light, and atmosphere rather than excess. Natural materials, soft tonal layering, and intentional detailing create a sense of calm throughout the home. Every decision was approached through the lens of how the spaces would feel to live within — not simply how they would photograph.
At the heart of the project was the desire to create meaningful everyday experiences:
morning light entering the mastersuit to kick start circadian rhythm
quiet evenings overlooking the valley,
the transition between indoor and outdoor living,
and spaces designed equally for gathering and retreat.
Ponderosa also reflects the philosophy that defines our studio approach — that thoughtful homes are shaped through both design vision and a deep understanding of construction. Having a background rooted in both residential design and construction management allowed the project to be approached holistically from the earliest stages, balancing architectural intent with buildability, proportion, materiality, and long-term livability.
The result is a home that feels refined without feeling excessive.
Modern without feeling cold.
Architectural without losing warmth.
Most importantly, it feels personal.
Ponderosa stands as a reflection of what we believe meaningful residential design should be — intentional, enduring, and deeply connected to the people and landscape it was created for.
